About
Sophia Brokke is a jazz pop artist who imbues complex and engaging melodies with raw, emotional lyrics--like if Olivia Dean had a bone to pick with her exes.
She blends smooth, bright vocals with convicting grit, packing her music with a unique punch. Her style has been described as an intersection between Yebba, Sammy Rae & the Friends, and Florence + The Machine with a story that is uniquely hers to tell.
Raised in Southern California, Sophia’s background is rooted in the rich musical history which defines the culture of the area. She became enamored by both the intimate street performances of musicians along the beach and massive productions for arenas full of people. She has now performed at many of these iconic venues she grew up attending, including the Whisky in downtown Los Angeles and the Libbey Bowl in Ojai. This environment filled her with a drive and hunger to connect with audiences on the same stages she fell in love with performance watching.
Sophia’s music is built on a variety of musical influences she has accumulated throughout her career. Her foundation is built on an energetic, full band sound inspired by the captivating rock bands of the 70s and 80s. Her stylistic choices are infused with complex jazz harmony and melody, and her lyrics stem from emotional and intellectual depth found in contemporary folk music. Her songwriting is bold and honest, admitting truths that she has no other way to share. These songs are for the people who have so much to say but often can’t find the words in the right moment; a representation of all the arguments that can only be won after they’ve happened.
Sophia has released two singles on all streaming platforms and is building an audience through both social media and live performance. Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, she frequently performs at songwriters’ rounds and venues in the area such as The End. She has recorded with Nashville based producers Jaron Bundy and Daniel Aguilar, and collaborated with artists Sullivan Grace, Julienne Ellen, Avery Calvert, and many others. She also frequently records and writes background vocals in studio sessions, along with lead vocal overdubbing on a wide range of projects.
As she continues to work on new music, Sophia is intentionally expanding her artistry to include even more collaboration with other musicians; vocalists, instrumentalists, and producers alike. Working with more musicians, she is bringing fresh perspectives to her audience while staying true to the core purpose of her music--giving voice to the things that are hardest to say out loud.
